Technical Definitions
Anti-racking control
Special rack and pinion device in linear slides to locate the retainer in a defined position during movement. In addition, a similar rack and pinion device is used in our pocket door and drawer systems.
Ball-bearing slide
The basis of the Schock telescopic and linear motion technology, a combination of cold rolled steel profiles with precision balls which run in retainers.
Carrier-plate travel
Maximum distance which the carrier plate of a linear slide covers between the two end positions of the outer slide profile.
Cathodic edge protection
Chemical and physical process which protects the cut edges of sendzimir zinc-plated coil steel.
Cycle
The unit derived from one opening and one closing movement of a telescopic slide or linear slide. All Schock slides are internally tested with the weight capacity to a minimum of 100,000 cycles.
Deflection
Acceptable level difference between a loaded and unloaded slide in extended position, measured at the front end of the slide with an evenly distributed load.
Detent
Device which secures one section of a slide in position. In contrast to positive locking, the resistance of a defined, extending or closing force is sufficient to activate or release the detent.
Dynamic load capacity (weight capacity)
Maximum load of a vertically mounted pair of slides when extended, using all available mounting positions. The stated load values relate to a minimum 100,000 cycles. A significantly higher load rate is possible with a lower number of cycles. A horizontal installation would considerably reduce the load rate, by up to 75%.
Schock telescopic slides have a unique "in-line" multiball-track geometry. They are therefore particularly rigid against distortion. This increases durability and dynamic load capacity significantly.
Full extension
Extension greater or equal to 100% of slide length.
Lateral stability
Dimension for lateral deflection of an extended telescopic slide.
Load rate
Synonym for dynamic load capacity (weight capacity).
Loss of extension
Synonym for carrier-plate travel.
Number of cycles
Number of movements during the service life of a telescopic slide or linear slide. One opening and one closing movement corresponds to one cycle.
Partial extension
Extension approximately 75% of slide length.
Positive locking
Mechanical locking of an extended or closed profile of a telescopic slide. The lock can be released by actuating the locking mechanism, either by hand or mechanically.
Positive stop
Synonym for stop.
Quick separation system
Special function which enables one slide profile to be detached, or released from the remaining component by pressing a latch.
Roll-forming technique
A process refined by Schock for forming slide profiles from coil steel. Creating ball tracks with close tolerances is essential for good running characteristics.
Slide
Synonym for ball-bearing slide, telescopic slide, linear slide, rail, glide.
Slide travel
Distance which a partial or full extension slide covers from the closed to the extended position.
Stop
Device at the end of the slide rails restricting the travel distance preventing the moving components from separating from the profiles.
Telescopic slide
Synonym for slide, ball-bearing slide. Generic term for partial and full extension slides.
